A Summarized History of Kingsland FBC

The area where the city of Kingsland now stands was once a large plantation owned by Mr. John M. King. The name of his plantation was Longwood. It was his son, Henry King, for whom Kingsland was named.   William Henry King Sr. (1854-1932) - Find a Grave Memorial

After the Seaboard Coastline Railroad was built through Camden County in 1893, a small settlement began to grow near the railroad. Finally, the town of Kingsland was laid out in 1894. Since practically all of the land at the time was owned by Mr. Henry King, the community had become known as King's Land. Thus, the new town was named Kingsland.

As the town began to grow, a need was felt for a Baptist church. In 1897, a church was organized.

The following was taken from the first minutes of the Kingsland Baptist Church: "A meeting was held at Kingsland, Camden County, Georgia, October 10, 1897, for the purpose of organizing a Missionary Baptist Church.

The organizational sermon was preached by Rev. J.A. Thompson. His text was taken from 2 Timothy 2:19; "Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal: The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity."
